BOSTON, Oct. 12, 2026 — The Patriots are rolling. Drake Maye threw for 374 yards and accounted for five touchdowns as New England beat the Las Vegas Raiders 45-17 on Sunday, improving to 3-2. Next up: the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, October 18. Which means a lot of living rooms across New England are about to fill up with friends, wings and noise. Fenway the Pup has some thoughts about that.

The game-day playbook for Boston dogs

1. Guard the snack table like it’s the red zone

Game-day food is where most trouble starts. Keep these out of paw’s reach:

  • Cooked bones (wings, ribs) can splinter.
  • Grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure.
  • Onions, garlic and avocado (hello, dips and guac) can make dogs sick.
  • Chocolate, alcohol and anything with xylitol (sugar-free gum, some peanut butters and candy) are emergencies.

Set out a “dog-safe” bowl instead: plain carrots, apple slices without seeds, or a few of your dog’s own treats. Tell guests the rule before kickoff.

2. Build a quiet end zone

Touchdown cheers, doorbells and a full house can overwhelm even confident dogs. Set up a quiet room with their bed, water and a long-lasting chew before guests arrive. Let them choose when to join the party.

3. Tailgating? Leash, shade and water

Parking-lot tailgates are crowded, loud and full of grills and dropped food. If your dog comes along, keep them leashed, bring fresh water, and keep them away from hot grills and coals. Check the venue’s rules first: most stadiums do not allow pets inside.

4. Dress for October, not for the photo

A dog jersey looks great on Instagram, but fit matters. Make sure it does not restrict movement or breathing, take it off if your dog seems stressed, and never leave a dressed dog unattended. New England fall evenings get cold quickly, so short-haired breeds may genuinely appreciate a layer on the walk home.

5. Keep the routine

Walk before kickoff, feed at the normal time, and do a halftime potty break. A tired, fed dog is a calm dog.

Fenway’s Take

Your dog is part of the fan base. Boston sports have always been a family thing, and for most of us the family has four legs in it. Planning for your dog is not overthinking it. It is good hosting.

The best game-day gear is a plan. A quiet room, a safe snack bowl and a guest list that knows the rules will do more than any jersey.

If something goes wrong, act fast. If your dog eats something on the toxic list, call your veterinarian or an animal poison control line right away. Do not wait to see if symptoms appear.

  • Is your dog a “front row” fan or a “quiet room” fan?
  • What’s your dog-safe game-day snack?
  • Patriots, Celtics, Bruins or Red Sox: which team matches your dog’s personality?
